The globally awarded PIACI resistance map
Our StoryMap, "A Struggle for Survival," has been awarded as the winner of the 2025 ArcGIS StoryMaps Competition in the Environment category.
This project, developed by the GTI PIACI and the Amazon Conservation Team, is the most comprehensive cartographic tool for visualizing the territories of isolated peoples in the Amazon and the Gran Chaco.
Through dynamic geospatial data, the map reveals the reality of 188 PIACI groups and demonstrates that their territories are the last bastions of forest integrity on the planet. This tool makes it possible to identify the pressures from mining, logging, and the roads surrounding their territories.
By navigating it, one can understand the importance of the PIACI's resistance as the defense of the planet's climate and conservation future. This award is a recognition of technology placed at the service of life and conservation.
